How I’ve Kept My Family Antibiotic Free for Over 8 Years

Maintaining your family’s health is a top priority! With 5 children and a super busy life, getting sick is not an option in our home!

Here are some of my best wellness tricks for the naturally minded family!

  1. Daily Smoothie

5 OUT OF 7 DAYS WE START OUR DAY WITH A RICH AND NUTRITIOUS SMOOTHIE, PACKED FULL OF VITAMINS AND MINERALS WHICH WILL BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM AND FEED YOUR CELLS WHAT IT NEEDS MOST- ORGANIC NUTRITION. WHEN OUR BODY DOES NOT HAVE TO DIGEST “FOOD”, IT HAS MORE TIME TO DO WHAT IT SHOULD- KEEP YOUR ORGANS CLEAN, HEALTHY AND FUNCTIONING AT IT’S HIGHEST LEVEL TO HELP PREVENT SICKNESS AND DISEASE.   1. Intermittent Fasting

I AM A BIG BELIEVER IN INTERMITTENT FASTING, WHICH AVOIDS THE DEMANDING PROCESS OF DIGESTION AND ALLOWS YOUR ORGANS TO BE MORE EFFICIENT WHICH WILL IN TURN CREATE A HEALTHIER BODY. IF THE LAST MEAL OF THE DAY IS 7PM AND YOU HAVE A SMOOTHIE AT 7AM, YOU HAVE HAD A DRY FAST FOR 12 HOURS ALREADY. IF YOUR FIRST “SOLID” MEAL IS AT NOON (SMOOTHIE WAS BREAKFAST) THEN YOU HAVE JUST HAD A COMBO DRY/WET FAST FOR 17 HOURS! AMAZING FOR YOUR HEALTH!

  1. The Sick Protocol

THIS IS MY PERSONAL SICK PROTOCOL IF MY CHILDREN HAVE WHAT MAY BE A “BUG” OR “VIRUS” BREWING OR “FLU” SCARE:

  1. Plant Based Diet

I AM A BIG BELIEVER IN VEGANISM FOR MANY REASONS. THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE A SEPARATE BLOG, BUT FOR NOW, REMEMBER THAT DAIRY IS VERY “CLOGGING” TO OUR MUCOUS MEMBRANES AND AN INFLAMMATORY. DAIRY IS SCARY!  WATCH IT IF YOU DARE!

  1. Epson Salt Baths

EPSOM SALT DRAWS TOXINS OUT OF THE BODY. DEPENDING ON YOUR NEEDS, THERE ARE SEVERAL THAT ARE RECOMMENDED, SUCH AS EUCALYPTUS IF YOU HAVE A RESPIRATORY COLD. I PREFER DR. TEALS WHICH IS THE CHEAPEST AT WALMART OR AMAZON.COM. 20 MINUTES MAX, AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER AFTERWARDS!

  1. Things to Avoid

    • SODA
    • GATORADE OR ELECTROLYTE DRINKS (these are made with petroleum based colors, not good for the body at all!)
    • JUNK FOOD/CANDY
    • FAST FOOD
    • ORANGE JUICE. THE BIG MISCONCEPTION IS THAT WHEN YOU ARE FEELING SICK TO DRINK OJ! ORANGE JUICE IS FULL OF SUGAR, NOT WHAT YOU WANT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO GET BETTER. INSTEAD, TAKE ‘VITAMIN C’ OR EAT THE REAL FRUIT WHICH HAS THE ADDED FIBER NEEDED TO PREVENT HYPERGLYCEMIA (HIGH BLOOD SHUGAR LEVELS). JUICE MAINLY CONSISTS OF FRUIT, WATER AND LOTS OF SUGAR. THINK OF IT, ORANGE JUICE IS GIVEN TO PEOPLE WITH HYPOGLYCEMIA (LOW BLOOD SUGAR) TO QUICKLY ELEVATE THEIR BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL, NOT WHAT WE WANT TO BE DRINKING ON A REGULAR BASIS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE SICK.

 

  1. Things to Eat Plenty of

  1. LOW GLYCEMIC FRUITS SUCH AS ORGANIC BERRIES
  2. FRESH ORGANIC VEGETABLES
  3. VEGETABLE SOUPS
  4. FIBER
  5. ADD HERBS TO YOUR MEALS!  CINNAMON HAS THE SAME ANTIOXIDANT POWER OF 1 CUP OF BLUEBERRIES. 1 TEASPOON OF OREGANO HAS THE EQUIVALENT OF 3 CUPS OF BLUEBERRIES! TURMERIC IS A POTENT ANTI INFLAMMATORY!

 

10. Eat When Hungry and Monitor Your Temperature

IF YOUR CHILD IS NOT HUNGRY DURING AN ILLNESS IT IS OK. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD ADEQUATELY HYDRATED THROUGHOUT THEIR ILLNESS. KEEP WATER AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES AND ENCOURAGE 6-8 GLASSES OF WATER DAILY. WE GIVE OUR CHILDREN FEVER REDUCERS ONCE THEY HIT 102°, THIS ALLOWS THE BACTERIA TO BE “COOKED AWAY” WHICH IS THE FUNCTION OF A FEVER. YOU DO NOT WANT THE TEMPERATURE TO BE OVER 102°, HOWEVER, OR IT CAN TRIGGER A FEBRILE SEIZURE. CONTACT YOUR PEDIATRICIAN IF YOUR CHILD HAS A FEVER OVER 100°.

11. Remember the Words of Hippocrates

Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food,  Hippocrates (400 BC), USED TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF NUTRITION TO PREVENT OR CURE DISEASE.
