Returning back to work after maternity leave can really be a tough time. You’ve never been away from your baby before so it’s an emotional time when you will need help from your partner, family, and friends. If you plan ahead and prepare for any mishaps, you can save yourself a lot of stress so things won’t feel as complicated. Before returning to work, try following some of these tips to keep organized and make the transition as smooth as possible.
Figure out your childcare situation asap.
If you have to leave your child at a daycare and your work does not provide this, you will want to do your research early on so you have plenty of time to make your choice. Not every place will be the right fit for you so you will want to make visits and speak to caretakers and other parents. You can even start your child in daycare a week before you head back to work so you both have time to adjust and you can feel confident when you drop baby off on your first day back at work.
Bring a pump with you
You will most likely have to pump while at work so always be prepared and have a pump on you along with all of the accessories like extra milk bags, wash cloths, and wipes. It will probably also help to have an extra blouse just in case of a mishap. Make lists and keep a journal
Mommy brain is definitely real and you will find that jotting things down in a journal and making lists will be absolutely necessary for keeping organized and remembering things! Take it easy on yourself
We all want to be that supermom who somehow manages to get everything done while making it look easy. But that’s just not realistic. It will be a hard transition and things probably won’t always go as planned, but that’s why you need to give yourself some time to adjust and don’t worry about getting the laundry done or cleaning the house. Those things will get done eventually, but for now you need to focus on your health and baby’s health so you can get back on track. Another thing to remember is don’t be ashamed to ask for help! We all need it and everyone has been there at some point in their lives so they know exactly how you feel and they will be happy to lend a helping hand.
