How To Get Your Home Ready For A New Baby

If you’re preparing to welcome a baby into the world, then the chances are that you’ve already got a million things to do on your to-do list. However, while each of them is important in its own way, getting your home ready for your new arrival is essential.
With that in mind, here are some top tips that you can follow to get your home ready for a new baby!
Start with basic home maintenance tasks. Before you can get started on the ‘fun’ stuff, such as decorating your nursery, you should first ensure that you’ve completed any necessary home maintenance tasks. After all, not only could ignoring these issues cost you a significant amount of money in repairs further down the line, but you could also inadvertently be putting your family’s health and safety at risk! For example, now is the perfect time to hire a professional chimney sweep to inspect your fireplace and chimney and ensure everything is in good order and up to code.
Baby-proof your home. While your baby’s first steps are still a little while away, you’d be surprised at how quickly this time rolls around. Not only that, but they will be crawling before you know it. As such, the sooner you can baby-proof your home, the better. For example, you should install safety gates at the top and bottom of any stairs and latches on cupboards and cabinets. You should also avoid leaving trailing wires around the house, especially when they begin to toddle and walk around!
Create a safe, relaxing nursery. Once you’ve worked your way through the above tasks, it's time to create a safe nursery for your baby. If you aren’t sure where to begin, try to choose a theme! For example, you may want to turn their nursery into a space lifted straight out of a fairytale or simply focus on incorporating bright and bold colors into the overall design. Having a theme in mind will make it easier to pick out furniture and other finishing touches!
As picking out furniture for your baby’s nursery can be expensive, you may want to add certain items to your wishlist ahead of your baby shower. Alternatively, you can buy items second-hand through online selling groups, such as Facebook Marketplace and Vinted. Be sure to clean any items thoroughly when bringing them into your home!
Stock up on essentials. When your little one arrives, you’ll likely feel that there are not enough hours in the day to do everything you need to do. As such, stocking up on household essentials ahead of time is crucial, as it minimizes the amount of time you’ll need to spend running to (and from) the store. While you’ll likely have already built up a supply of baby essentials such as diapers and bottles, don’t forget the household essentials that you’ll need during this time, too. This includes items such as toilet paper and basic toiletries. The more you can buy ahead of time, the better prepared you’ll feel.
