How to Get Rid of Eczema on Face?

During childhood, eczema is a common rash that occurs in different parts of the body, including the face. It can make kids uncomfortable as the whole body starts itching. According to the National Eczema Association, 67% of children face sleep issues because of this condition. So, it becomes the responsibility of the parents to focus on kids’ face care to ensure a healthy childhood. This article will explain the reasons behind the condition, its symptoms, and how you can prevent or cure it.

Reasons for Eczema

Eczema is the result of severe skin inflammation. It can happen due to various reasons like,

  • Mutation of a gene that affects the skin condition
  • Problems with the skin barrier
  • Strong immune reactions

The function of a skin barrier is to keep the moisture intact while preventing pollution, dust particles, and allergens from penetrating the skin. Due to various causes like genetics, immune system, or insufficient kids’ face care, the skin barrier can break, causing eczema.

Sometimes, your immune system can react strongly to allergies and dust particles, which lead to a surge of antibodies, ultimately causing increased skin inflammation. This can be another important cause of eczema in childhood.

While you can do nothing to prevent the mutation of a gene, you can do proper skin care for your kids to strengthen their skin barrier and balance their immune reactions.

Symptoms of Facial Eczema:

  • The eczema on kids’ faces often looks like this:
  • red, brown, or purple patches on the cheek
  • raised bumps around the face which are reddish or whitish
  • dry areas that ooze out clear fluids
  • The skin will itch to the extent that it gets scratched, causing an injury
  • Facial skin may feel warm due to severe inflammation
  • Itching can cause problems in the sleep cycle of children.

If not treated well, facial eczema can lead to tough, dry, thick, and scaly skin, which itches severely all the time. So, it is important to seek professional help as soon as possible and prioritize kids' skincare

How to Get Rid of Facial Eczema on Kids’ Faces:

  • Prevent Scratching:

As you already know, eczema itches severely. So, you must prevent your child from scratching it harshly, as it can lead to open sores. Also, the more the child scratches, the more it feels itchy. Cut their nails short or make them wear cotton gloves. By any means, prevent scratching, as it can give rise to more skin infections for your child.

  • Short Daily Bath:

The best treatment for facial eczema on a kid’s face is to bathe them daily. You can use lukewarm water and a non-soap cleanser for the process. Bathe them for 15 to 20 minutes, focusing more on sweaty areas. Daily bathing will ensure enough moisture for their skin while keeping it clean to prevent any infections. Remember to not use any cleanser with fragrance or allergic materials, and do not scrub your child's skin harshly. Once you are done with the bath, pat dry their skin using a clean towel.

  • Use Moisturizers:

Use an eczema-friendly moisturizer, according to the doctor's advice, twice a day. You should use it right after the bath to lock the moisture in and get maximum benefit out of it. Eczema on a kid's face makes it dry and thick. Using moisturizers regularly can make it soft and help relieve the dryness. As parents, you must be more careful during the winters. Frequent use of moisturizers on a regular basis should be a part of your kids’ face care routine.

  • Corticosteroids:

These medicines are prescribed to calm down skin inflammation and heal the eczema rashes. It comes in various forms and strengths, such as lotion, cream, or ointment. Its regular use can lead to thinner skin, making it vulnerable to other infections. So, you should consult a doctor and use these medications only with his prescription. Remember to use these medicines only in the affected areas. You can use non-steroid medicines to heal the rashes, but they will work only for mild eczema and on delicate skin areas.

  • No Use of Fragrance

Use of scented lotion, cream, or ointment can trigger infections on your skin. So, if your child is vulnerable, skip using scented skincare products. Look for fragrance-free products and use those regularly.

  • Avoid Allergic Food:

More than 35% of the kids with eczema also have food allergies, and ignoring this can lead to severe rashes. Figure out what food is causing allergies to your kids and avoid those.

Concluding Words

You can prevent and cure facial eczema with proper and regular kids’ face care. Keep their skin moisturized, use 100% cotton fabrics for their dresses, bathe them regularly, and avoid exposure to allergens of any kind. As a parent, it is your responsibility to keep them safe and healthy. So, make smarter choices!
